This is my first book. It is a memoir of my life and times, but it is also more than that, in it I make observations about the world around me and the apparent craziness of it all. A particular theme is the importance we all seem to attach to ourselves and the problems that this generates for us and those around us. This can be summarised by considering the part the ego plays in conflicts between individuals, religions and nations. "No self no problem".
The Reluctant Doctor and More Important Stuff.
Crispin Swinhoe was born in 1956 in Weymouth, Dorset, was brought up in South London and boarding school in the Midlands. After spending 36 years as a doctor in the Royal Navy and NHS he retired in 2015.
He has enjoyed a varied, interesting and arguably unorthodox life. Well-travelled and well-read he has developed a cosmopolitan view of life based on his many experiences.
He has lived in Yorkshire for 25 years, the past 11 of these in Barnsley with his wife Julie. Crispin has four children: Fiona, Alec, Heidi and Harry - and a step-daughter Bethany.
